The Best Things About Joining a Sorority

Ever since my mom first told me about her experiences in Phi Mu, I just knew I had to join a sorority too.  I couldn’t wait for the social events, friends, and even the community service.  This year, as a freshman at Presbyterian College, I decided to go through recruitment.  

This turned out to be one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.  Nothing will beat the excitement of opening my Bid Card for Alpha Delta Pi.  Since I’ve had such a great time in my month as an Alpha, I’ve decided to give you seven reasons to join a sorority.

1. The Sisterhood

This is definitely the top reason, hence why it is first on my list!  Through my sorority, I’ve already made so many great friendships that I know will last a lifetime.  I can’t wait to grow closer to each sister in ADPi as the years go on.

2. Bid Day

So far, Bid Day has been the highlight of my entire college experience.  You can’t beat running into the arms of your new sisters!

3. The Events

If you’ve ever travelled through Clinton, SC, you know there isn’t much to do here.  However, joining a sorority has given me something to do almost every single weekend- and I love it!  I like to stay busy, and a sorority definitely keeps you busy, but in the best way.

4. The T-Shirts

Even though I’ve only been a part of ADPi for a month, I already have half a dozen t-shirts that were either passed down, or that we’ve been able to order for different events.  T-shirts are so great, because they’re cute, creative, and designed by one of the sisters!  I love wearing my new letters, because I really feel like I’m part of something special!

5. The Philanthropy

Alpha Delta Pi’s philanthropy, or charity that they support, is The Ronald McDonald House.  We have fundraisers that go towards our charity, and we will go visit and serve there, as well.  Giving back to the community is so rewarding and so worth the time!

6. Getting a Big Sister

We had our big/little reveal at our sisterhood retreat about two weeks ago, and it was so fun!  My big chose the theme “Woodstock” for our reveal.  I absolutely love my big, and it’s so great to have someone that “knows the ropes” of the sorority looking out for you!

7. The Love

This one relates to sisterhood, but the love you receive is unconditional in a sorority.  These girls become your family and provide you with your home-away-from-home.  It’s cheesy, I know, but it’s so true.
